WEONA REDWOOD HAS THE DROP ON HIS RIVALS

WEONA REDWOOD scored his third career victory after benefitting from a drop in grade at the Sunshine Coast on Friday night.

Having stepped out in the city at his first two starts of the prep, the 4YO enjoyed the comforts of home with a determined display in the Class 2 Handicap over the mile.

Despite carrying 59.5kg, WEONA REDWOOD was too strong for the race favourite in a driving finish under Ben Thompson.

“His first prep was very good, but his two runs back have probably only been fair,” said Thompson.

“David left the instructions up to me, and fortunately the horse jumped well tonight. It’s important to get this horse into a nice rhythm and let him find his stride.

“Even though we were wide, I didn’t want to use up too much gas by fighting him. So I kept my powder dry in the mid stages and listened to the horse, and his fitness shone through at the end of the race.”

The $15,600 winner’s cheque took his career earnings past the $50,000 mark, many congratulations to the Jones family.
