RED HOT COL BURN FLIES FRESH

COL BURN maintained his flawless first-up record with a tough victory at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday.

The lightly-raced 4YO now has a pair of wins from his three career outings after he made light of the 61 kilos on his back to get his spring preparation off to the best possible start.

Following a clean getaway from the wide gate, COL BURN found the perfect position under Ben Thompson, who was also on board for the gelding’s debut win at the Sunny Coast.

It developed into a two-horse war in the straight and the judge was required to separate the first two home, but the verdict eventually went the way of COL BURN - much to the delight of his connections.

“To win first-up with 61 kilos on his back was a pretty impressive effort,” said Thompson, who registered a treble on the day.

“He had every reason to fade late, but fortunately he just kept his nose in front. A good start from the wide draw was priceless, because it gave us options. David handed me the keys to ride him how I wanted, and once we got the good getaway we were able to cross pretty seamlessly.

“Credit to David and the team, he had the confidence to run him from the wide gate with the big weight, and the horse justified that confidence.”
