WEONA REDWOOD GOES THE DISTANCE

ree

WEONA REDWOOD relished the rise in distance to break his maiden at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Stepping up to the 1800m for the first time after two previous starts over shorter trips, the son of Redwood showcased his stamina after working home strongly over the concluding stages to score a narrow victory.

Jockey Justin Huxtable said it was a strong effort from the stayer to pick himself up and win after a muddling run race which made it tricky for him to find his rhythm.

“We were going very nicely, I just wanted to settle in behind a couple but unfortunately mid section they wanted to go a slow speed which backed us up a bit.

“Coming around the side there was a bit of a speed injection which sort of suited us but it didn’t, he got caught napping and turned into a bit of a sit and sprint.

“But he’s still very green and has a lot of upside so he’s a nice horse.”

Congratulations to the Jones family
