WARRANT PUTS HIS RIVALS ON NOTICE

WARRANT relished the step up the mile at his third start for the stable to break through with an impressive midweek metropolitan victory on his home track.

The 4YO had shown signs of his talent at his two previous starts for the stable, but the dominant manner of his win in Wednesday’s Maiden Plate still came as something of a surprise.

Sent out a $31 chance, WARRANT broke cleanly and settled in a prominent position under Michael Cahill, who was in the saddle for the first time.

The pair travelled very sweetly throughout and after cruising into the lead at the 200m mark, the son of Russian Revolution held on quite comfortably to collect a cheque for $22,000.

“I was surprised with the way he won,” said David.

“When they turned into the straight, I couldn’t see any way the horse was going to get beaten because he was travelling so well. It was good to see him put them to the sword because he’s a lovely horse.

“His owners have done a great job with him, and it’s exciting to see him put on a performance like that at a metro meeting. Michael Cahill is a true professional and he knew what he had underneath him. We’ve had a bit of bad luck lately so I said my prayers at the 100-metre mark, and they were answered today.”

Many congratulations to his owners: Shane Dowling and Louise and John England.
