SPOT THE AUSSIE showed strength and stamina in equal measure to break through for his maiden win at the Sunshine Coast.

Despite getting hot and bothered pre-race on a typically humid Queensland day, the son of Husson was on his very best behaviour during Sunday’s QTIS 3YO Maiden Plate (1800m).

Having been taken straight to the front under a positive ride by Ben Thompson, SPOT THE AUSSIE relaxed nicely in the run and kicked clear in the home straight.

The race favourite was challenged strongly late in the piece by the second elect, but stuck on stoutly to collect the winner’s cheque for $16,800 as well as some handy QTIS bonuses.

“I got a bit worried pre-race when he got stirred up and started to have a bit of a meltdown, but he held it together nicely during the race,” said David.

“Ben did a fantastic job, the horse only stepped away fairly from the gates but Ben used his initiative and took control of the race. Full credit to the second horse, it looked like we had it beaten on the corner but she was coming back at us late on.

“Time will be his greatest asset, because he’s still not there physically just yet. He wanted to get on with the job so I think he’ll be a better horse next prep. The owners have been very patient and it was great to get a QTIS race under his belt. We’ll see how he pulls up and he might go for a little break now.”

Many congratulations to Mrs L A England, Mr J England, Mr C England and Mr S L Dowling.
