SILVER HAMMER made an excellent first impression on his stable debut with a dominant maiden victory at Ipswich on Thursday.
The recent recruit benefitted from a controlled Damien Thornton ride to race clear in the Vale Pat Duff Maiden Plate.
The 4YO brought some solid form lines to Queensland, having placed at six of his nine starts in Victoria, and he duly broke through at the first time of asking for his new owners.
The gorgeous grey settled in midfield under Thornton in the early stages of the 1100m contest, before the pair made their move just before the home turn.
Having swept to the lead, the son of Inference powered home for a comfortable win with stablemates BEE TWO and IHAVESEENTHELIGHT chasing him home in third and fourth respectively.
“He took off on me a little bit but I didn’t want to fight him,” said Thornton.
“I wanted to try to keep him comfortable so even though we ended up three deep coming round the turn, he was still flowing nicely enough into the lead. He still hung in and did a bit wrong, so there’s definitely improvement to come.
“He’s done a very good job first-up and he was strong to the line, so I think he’ll be able to stretch out further in distance.”
Congrats to his owners Mr A G Parlato and Mr J J Russell.
