ROSSO LEVANTO GOES THE DISTANCE

ROSSO LEVANTO appreciated the step up in distance and drop in grade to record her second win of a very profitable preparation at Ipswich on Thursday.
Following victory at Eagle Farm two starts back and a minor placing at Doomben last time, the mare was well supported in the betting markets and she duly took control of the Class 2 Handicap (1980m) from the outset.
Having left the second favourite in her wake before rounding the home bend, ROSSO LEVANTO was challenged in the home straight by another mare but she was tough in the finish to grind out victory by more than a length under Ben Thompson.
“She was very well placed and she was able to control the race,” said Thompson post-race.
“I was pretty happy to find the front comfortably enough. She travelled nicely and when she pricked her ears, I knew she’d take plenty of catching. Even though she had company I always thought she was doing enough to win the race. It was a great result and she’s starting to put together a really nice record now.”
Victory took her overall earnings past the $75,000 mark, many congratulations to her owner-breeder, Mr Gerry Harvey.
