ROSSO LEVANTO BLOWS THEM AWAY

ree

ROSSO LEVANTO put the seal on another profitable week for the stable when she strolled to victory by more than seven lengths at the Sunshine Coast.

The homebred mare had put the writing on the wall with a runner-up finish at her previous start, and she relished the step up to the mile for the first time in Sunday’s Maiden Handicap.

Sent off the $1.16 favourite, the daughter of Tarzino never gave her supporters a moment of worry as she cruised into the lead and swiftly put paid to her rivals under Jag Guthmann-Chester.

“That was a very pleasing win,” said Guthmann-Chester.

“It looked the perfect race so she was really well placed, and I’m just thankful that everything went to plan. She stepped cleanly from the good gate which meant I could be neutral on her early. She was a little bit keen the first 100 metres, but as the speed picked up and she got a bit of cover, she really relaxed in the run.

“I wanted to stay off the fence to make sure we didn’t end up in any trouble, but the horse ahead of us didn’t really take us anywhere so I ducked back to the fence and cut the corner. Once I peeled her out again, it was all over pretty quickly.”

The dominant victory was our seventh success from the stable’s last 13 starters, a run which also includes three minor placings.

Congratulations to her owner-breeder Gerry Harvey.
