PROMINENT LAD BREAKS THROUGH IN STYLE

PROMINENT LAD relished the step up to 1200m and a rain-affected track to make his breakthrough at start number two at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Having closed off nicely despite racing keenly on debut at the Sunshine Coast at the start of the month, the 3YO opened his account in style with a determined display in the QTIS Maiden Handicap (1200m).

The son of Better Than Ready was always on the premises under Noel Callow, who switched PROMINENT LAD to the inside and delivered a typically strong ride to secure victory.

“I thought it was a terrific win today,” said David.

“He settled just behind the leader and switched off nicely. He put them to the sword when he got the inside run, and I thought Noel did a very good job. He had a good blow and his heart-rate was up after the race, but it was only his second run so that was to be expected.

“He was certainly much more tractable today, and the win has set him up for a bright future. He’ll have a short freshen-up then we’ll bring him back into the stables, and look to take him back to the races on either the 18th or 19th of October.”

The win was the stable’s third in quick succession and ensured a handy $32,500 payday for his connections.

Congratulations to Mr S A Flanagan, Mr D N Gillingham, Mr J P Munt, Ms M J Henzell, Miss P L Corfield and Bellmere Lodge Racing.
