ON HOLD ANSWERS THE CALL

ON HOLD built on an impressive performance at her last start to register her second career victory at the Sunshine Coast.

The Headwater filly charged home to finish second at Doomben in mid-June, and she carried that form into Sunday’s Fillies & Mares Class 1 Plate (1000m).

After racing keenly in the early stages, On HOLD soon relaxed into her stride under Ryan Maloney. With the leaders setting a decent tempo, the 3YO flowed into the race and let down impressively to score by just under a length.

“She was a bit fierce early on but eventually she settled and switched off beautifully for me,” said Maloney.

“When they chopped and change the pace at her last start, she really wanted to get on with it. But today I was able to get her to relax and when I asked her for an effort, she went super. So hopefully the win gives her a little bit of confidence and we can head back to a midweek metro race with her.”

The winner’s cheque for $15,600 took her earnings close to $50,000, congratulations to the Pemberton family.
