Winning machine TUFF TU MUS continued his love affair with Doomben when he extended his picket fence to six on Saturday.
The 4YO is now five from five on his favourite track after he handled the step up to the mile with aplomb in the Class 6 Handicap (1600m).
With Tiff Brooker in the saddle for the first time, TUFF TO MUS made light of his 60kg impost with another powerful performance which carried his earnings close to $200,000 from eight starts.
In a scary admission for his rivals and an exciting one for his owner John Fordham, his trainer revealed the son of All Too Hard is nowhere near the furnished product yet.
“We’re taking it one step at a time with him because mentally he’s still quite a challenge,” said David.
“He was probably about a five out of ten today with his raceday manners, so he’s still not there yet. We took him to the trials at Doomben last Tuesday and he came with us to the races at Ipswich last Wednesday, so he’s been doing a bit of travelling around which is important in trying to get his mental state right.
“But there’s no denying he’s got plenty of talent. I was concerned half-way through the race, because the tempo was quite strong and I thought he might’ve got softened up early. But when the sprint was on, he was ready. The margin was only a neck, but I thought he did a great job.”
Congratulations to John, who purchased TUFF TU MUS for $140,000 from Gerry Harvey’s Barramul Stud draft at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast National Yearling Sale.
