MARE PROVES HER WORTH IN THE CITY
TIZ WORTHY broke through for her first victory since joining the stable after flashing home at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
The mare had performed with great credit at each of her first two starts in Queensland, and she duly got her just rewards in the QTIS 3YO & 4YO BM70 Handicap (1200m).
TIZ WORTHY took up a more prominent position in the run under Ben Thompson, who was taking the reins for the first time.
The pair hit the front at the 200m mark and held off their rivals quite comfortably to score by a length.
“Credit to the stable, they had the mare spot on here today,” said Thompson.
“It looked a nice assignment for her third-up, and I’m sure she’ll take good confidence from the win. We hit the front quite early, but to be fair she didn’t get complacent and really knuckled down to her task.
“I think sticking to 1200 metres is probably her go, at least for the time being. I’m sure she’ll get out to 1400 metres at some point, but while she’s still a little bit green and immature, sticking to the shorter sprint trips will probably benefit her.”
