MAGNIFICENT SEVEN FOR TUFF TU MUS

Updated: Aug 3

The stable was in seventh heaven when TUFF TU MUS kicked off the new season in style at Saturday’s Eagle Farm meeting.

The gelding will head for a well-deserved holiday after extending his picket fence to seven wins - all at metropolitan level - in the Benchmark 90 Handicap, which marked his first attempt over 1800m.

TUFF TU MUS was assigned the topweight of 60kg but he made light of the impost as he carried his earnings past the $200,000 mark thanks to seven victories and a pair of runner-up finishes from his nine career starts.

Given a supremely confident ride by Ryan Maloney, the son of All Too Hard cruised into the lead and ultimately held on for a more comfortable win than the half-length margin would suggest.

“He was in a great headspace,” said David.

“He jumped well today, but Ryan just waited and gave him plenty of room at the right time. He’s a very competitive horse and he got to the front early, but he held on quite comfortably in the end and he’ll head off for a break now.

“He’s only had nine starts, but he’s probably been to the races 25 to get him used to the experience. We bring him all the time and the stable staff have done an outstanding job looking after this horse, so it’s been a real team effort with him.”

Many congratulations to his sole owner John Fordham, who purchased him for $140,000 at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
