LADY LUCIFER smashed through $150,000 in prizemoney with a fifth career victory at Doomben which extended the stable’s hot recent streak.

The stable now has four winners and a minor placing from our last nine runners after LADY LUCIFER clung on gamely in Wednesday’s Benchmark 70 Handicap.

Having blown out the cobwebs over 1200m at Doomben at the end of May, the daughter of Hellbent stepped up to the more suitable distance of 1350m at the same venue under her new pilot, apprentice Benjamin Osmond.

Given the narrow margin of victory, Osmond’s two kilo claim may just have made the difference as LADY LUCIFER got her nose down right on the line to carry her impressive race record to five wins and the same number of placings from 13 starts.

“It was pretty tight in the end,” said David.

“They went very steady and I was hoping that she might have went at the 600-metre mark, because she’s not a horse that has an electric sprint at the end of her races. So it was probably a better win than it looked, and she’ll improve off that. She was carrying a bit of condition, so today’s run will tighten her up nicely.”

Many congratulations to the team at On Track Racing and all her owners: Mr J R Carey, Mrs M D Bates, Mr D J Bates, Mr B J Warnick, Mr F J Vernon, Bayles Girls Racing, Mr P R Mcgavin, Ms S M Manning, Lock & Bob Boys, Mr G A Snow, Mrs M J Keegan, GroLim Racing, Mr C D Enders, Mr W D Phillips, Mr W C Stone and Mr B R Heness.
