KILNA SHOWS HIS CLASS

KILNA broke his maiden on his home track with a tough first-up victory on Friday.

The 4YO had come mighty close to registering his first win before his lengthy spell, and after returning with two smart trial wins he promptly saluted at career start number five.

With apprentice jockey Jasper Franklin in the saddle for the first time, KILNA was a tough fractious in the gates but settled in the front of the field after jumping cleanly.

The son of Tarzino still had plenty of ground to make up in the straight, but gradually reeled in the leaders to score by a length.

“It was a super effort,” said Franklin.

“He was a bit fresh and got a little stirred up in the gates, he brushed his head on the foam on the top of the gates but fortunately he was cleared to run. He jumped out nicely and ended up in a beautiful spot.

“After the home turn I switched my whip and he straightened up then put them away well. Obviously he’s first up so there is improvement to come, but it was a great training performance.”

Congratulations to his owners: DVD Racing, Mr W A Veall, Pryde Racing, J A Morgan and Mr K Cleghorn.
