JUNGLE JET ensured the stable rounded out a successful season on a high note when he scored a very tenacious victory at Ipswich.
The 4YO registered his third career win and the stable’s 73rd of the campaign when he fought back to topple the favourite in Thursday’s Benchmark 65 Handicap (2210m).
After a valiant fifth at Doomben at his previous start, JUNGLE JET dropped back to provincial grade at the venue where he broke his maiden by some 15 lengths in late 2024.
Given a well-judged ride by Jag Guthmann-Chester, the son of Tarzino hit the front in the straight but looked to be beaten after his main market rival swept past him.
However, after digging deep into his reserves of stamina, JUNGLE JET was not to be denied as he battled back bravely to score by a nose.
“That was a fantastic win,” said David.
“I was hoping he would hold on for a place when the favourite went past him quite easily, but he really fought back. Jag did a great job, he kept riding him and never gave up, and neither did the horse. It’s been a bit of a tough prep until now, but it feels like it’s all been worthwhile.
“We’ve pencilled in a 2400-metre race for him at Eagle Farm on Saturday week, it’ll be a tough race but the trip and track should be ideal for him.”
Victory moved his earnings to $82,860, congratulations to all his owners: Mr J Bebedellis, Mr W Goldthorp, Mrs K E Goldthorp OAM, Mr M A Green, Mrs A M Green, Mr A N Smith, Mrs V A Smith, Mr S J Morrison, Mr J C Quirk, Mr A Counsel, Mrs L A Chapman, Mr J D Davis, Mr Z Holt, Mr D Licastro, Mr M Macfarlane, Mr J R Makepeace, Mr G O'Neal, Mr D C Milles and Mr M J Taylor.
