HARD AS BROK broke through for his first win after toughing it out at Ipswich on Thursday.
The son of All Too Hard went into the Maiden Plate (1666m) the dominant favourite after a last-start placing over the Eagle Farm mile.
Sent straight to the front by Ben Thompson, HARD AS BROK looked to have stolen a march on his rivals with several of the chasing pack off the bridle rounding the home turn.
Despite being challenged by the late swoopers, the 3YO held on gamely to register his first victory at start number six and collect a cheque for $16,800.
“At the 400 metre mark I thought he was going to gap them, he didn’t quite do that but he did enough in the end,” said David.
“Ben wanted to find the front to keep the horse honest, and he’s still learning what it’s all about. He’s definitely got ability, and that win should give him plenty of confidence. The owners have been very patient with him, so it’s good to get the result for them today.”
Many congratulations to his owners: S P Mayer, Mr P P Saad, Mr P Faux, Mr J Moffitt, Mr C Geaney, Mr S Chamoun, Alby Racing, Mr G K Wood, Mr J Sutton, Mr S Foley, Mr B R Turville, Mr M S Walton, Mr A J Byrne, Mrs S Cooke, Mr S A Whyte, Mr G Alvaro, Mr J C Cartwright, Mr M D Keating, Mr P Dunstan and Mr D M Bloor.
