WOWZINO stamped his staying credentials with a dominant victory by five lengths at the Sunshine Coast.
The 4YO was ultra impressive in Sunday’s Benchmark 68 Handicap (2265m) thanks to a positive ride by Ben Thompson, who followed up his three-timer at Ipswich with another stylish steer.
The pair broke cleanly from the gates and took charge of affairs from the outset, with WOWZINO settling swiftly into a nice rhythm.
With several of their rivals struggling to keep pace, Thompson poured on the pressure rounding the home turn and WOWZINO responded impressively with a dynamic turn of foot to clinch his fourth career win.
“That was pretty damn good,” said David.
“Even before the corner, you could see the second horse was really struggling to stay in contact. They were trying to get up and eyeball him in the middle stages, but he was travelling that strongly without overdoing it.
“It was great to see him handle the ground and the jump up in distance, especially with 60.5 kilos on his back. Hi post-race recovery was pretty good, and his heart rate was within normal limits. It’s been a bit of a rocky road at times with this horse, but it’s great to see him putting it all together now.”
Many congratulations to his owners: Dr C G Lawler, Mr D G Willis, Mr J P Bergin, Mr R A Pegum, Mr W Goldthorp, Mrs K E Goldthorp, Mr R T J Boidin, Ms G Hollis, Mr G Jones, Mrs M M Dignam, Mrs V A Smith, The Big Seal and Goldie Dreamers.
