EASY LOVE SHOWS HER VERSATILITY

A patient, rail-hugging ride and a late burst of acceleration were the recipe for success as EASY LOVE flew fresh at Ipswich to score back-to-back wins.

EASY LOVE had signed off her previous prep with a dominant win over 1800m, but proved she is a very versatile mare with an eye-catching win over 1350m to open her current campaign.

After a slightly sluggish start Jag Guthmann-Chester took EASY LOVE to the rear of the field in the opening stages of Wednesday’s Fillies & Mares Class 3 Handicap.

When her pilot asked her for an effort in the straight, the daughter of Love Conquers All responded with a terrific turn of foot to register a third career win which carried her earnings past the $100,000 mark.

“It was a very patient ride by Jag,” said David.

“The good jockeys are happy to take their medicine, and that’s what he did. We wanted the horse to be up on the pace, we thought we’d be in the first three but then she goes and misses the kick. We weren’t where we wanted to be but he got her travelling nicely.

“I’m glad I wasn’t riding on her because I would’ve taken off at the 600-metre mark, but he stuck to the fence and took the shortest way home. She had the turn of foot required and having thought she needed to be a natural leader last prep, today she proved she’s no one-trick pony. To come out here and win like that certainly puts her in a good place moving forward.”
