EASY LOVE DOES IT THE HARD WAY

EASY LOVE benefitted from the step up to the mile and a firmer racing surface as she shed her maiden tag in the midweek metropolitan meeting.
Having finished runner-up on a Heavy 8 track at Ipswich at the end of May, the well-bred filly relished the superior surface at Doomben as she broke through at start number three in the 3YO Maiden Plate (1660m).
The daughter of Love Conquers All attracted plenty of support before the jump, and she looked to have the race at her mercy when Melbourne Cup-winning Michael Rodd took off rounding the home turn.
Despite a tendency to lug in which saw her draft towards the outside fence, EASY LOVE still had enough left in the tank to score by half-a-length.
“She looked amazing in the yard today,” said David.
“She had dapples on her coat and she ran accordingly. I told Michael not to drive her mad early and just to get her into a nice rhythm, because I knew she’d respond when he asked her. She ended up in a great spot but then when he peeled her out, she made a beeline for the fence.
“She hasn’t done that before so I’m not sure what happened there, but she showed her class and luckily it didn’t cost her the race. She handled the step up to the mile well, so it’s great to tick that box with her.”
Many congratulations to the team at On Track Racing and all her owners: Mr D J Bates, Mrs M D Bates, Ms J Cai, Mr R A Modin, F R F Racing, Mr A B Stubbs, Mr P R McGavin, Mr P E Kitching, Mr R J Harvey, Mr L S Daley and Mrs G Harvey.
