DREAM DEBUT FOR ELLIBABY

ELLIBABY rewarded the patience shown by stable staff and her ownership group with a bold display on debut at Doomben.

The filly, who was nursed back to health after suffering a paddock injury as a young horse, is still a work in progress but she showed an abundance of talent to mark her first start with a tough win under Kyle Wilson-Taylor.

Despite wearing pacifiers the daughter of Merchant Navy, whom we purchased in partnership with On Track Racing at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, was on her toes in the parade ring. But once the gates opened, she was on her best behaviour and worked nicely through her gears to take out the Fillies and Mares Maiden Plate (1200m).

The victory was Wilson-Taylor’s first since returning from a spell on the sidelines, and vindicated the young rider’s high opinion of ELLIBABY.

“I trialled her up and she went really well, so I knew what I had to work with,” he said after the race.

“She’s a lovely filly and she will definitely continue to improve with racing, because she’s still got plenty of furnishing to do. But it was a great start to her career, and I was really pleased to get a win for David and for the owners who have shown great faith and loyalty to me.”

Many congratulations to all the team at On Track Racing and their fellow owners: Mr D Lesjak, Bayles Girls Racing, Mr R Marsolino, Miss A R Bayles, Mr F J Vernon, Mr P R Mcgavin, Mrs J McGavin, Mr D McWilliams, Mr Z Marks, Dr A M Morrison-Galt, Mr M Vogelsang, Mr J Wilson, Mr P D Smart, Mr A M Smart, Mr B La Master, Bliss Racing, Mr G Kotoski and Mrs A M Szuster.
