DOUBLE DELIGHT FOR LUTON HOO

LUTON HOO scored her third win from her last five starts when she went back-to-back courtesy of an emphatic victory at Ipswich on Thursday.

The mare has been a revelation since arriving in Queensland, saluting three times and finishing in the minor placings on two more occasions from her six starts for Vandyke Racing.

The daughter of Time Test entered the Class 3 Plate (1690m) as the dominant favourite following her narrow win at the Sunshine Coast earlier in the month, and her supporters were given very few anxious moments as she looked the winner a long way from home.

Once Neil Callow had asked the four-year-old for an extra effort in the home straight, she responded in style to put a considerable margin on her rivals.

King Callow was able to ease her down near the line for a two-length win which carried her earnings close to $70,000.

“She didn’t jump that well so I had to give her a little niggle so she would hold her spot,” said Callow.

“After that she travelled fairly well but she didn’t fully switch off and relax, which probably added further merit to the win because it was pretty easy in the end. It might be a good idea to try the winkers next time, because she didn’t help herself and they might help her settle better. But she was still too good for them, so it was a good win.”

Many congratulations to her owners, Annabelle Borges and Avraam Solomon.
