DEVILISH DOUBLE FOR LUCIFER'S WAY

LUCIFER’S WAY continued the sizzling start to his career with a second successive victory at Grafton on Sunday.

After opening his career with back-to-back placings, the 3YO deservedly broke through last time at the Sunshine Coast and promptly repeated the dose with a stylish success in the Class 1 Handicap (1190m).

Given a peach of a ride by the returning Cejay Graham, the son of Hellbent box-seated in the early stages before punching through the gap when it opened in the home straight.

From there, it was all over bar the shouting as LUCIFER’S WAY romped clear to score by more than a length.

Victory took his career earnings close to $40,000 from just four starts, and the manner of his win suggested that he will be even better suited when he steps up in trip in the future.

“It was a lovely win,” said Graham.

“We were afforded a nice barrier and had a lovely run throughout. He switched off nicely and travelled really well, it was just a matter of getting the split and when it came, he sprinted away from them.

“I got there a little sooner than I would’ve liked so he did have a bit of a think about things, but it only took one with the persuader to put his mind back on the job. He’s racing with a bit of confidence so hopefully he can continue progressing through the grades now.”

Congratulations to the team at Kitchwin Hills and all his owners: Whitby Bloodstock Pty Ltd, Ms L K Jones and Mr G J Loiero.
