Promising three-year-old gelding COL BURN made the perfect start to his career with a determined debut victory at the Sunshine Coast on Friday night.
The son of Pariah had impressed in three barrier trials heading into his first-up assignment and was duly sent out a short-priced $1.40 favourite.
But despite the short quote COL BURN was still required to dig deep for the win after jockey Ben Thompson urged him into a narrow gap between horses over the final 200m to forge clear and win by 0.2 of a length.
Thompson said COL BURN would benefit from the experience in what was his first time stepping out under lights.
“He's got good class to him and he's going to keep improving, I'm sure,” he said.
“He was pretty green but fortunately he took a run when it was there, it's just when he got there, he had a think, but it’s hard to be too critical given it was his first time under lights.”
Congratulations to owner C Durham
