CAPITAL CHORD IS A CITY SLICKER

CAPITAL CHORD landed a city success on debut at Doomben after showing a very sharp turn of foot under an inspired Angela Jones ride.

The Capitalist filly entered Thursday’s Maiden Plate (1200m) off the back of an impressive trial, and promptly dispatched her rivals with a degree of disdain to claim a cheque for $22,000.

Jones looked to be trapped behind a wall of horses in the home straight, but the talented hoop was prepared to wait for her opportunity and when it duly presented on the inside, CAPITAL CHORD surged clear of her rivals in a mere matter of strides.

“I was a bit nervous before the race, because we have quite a high opinion of this filly,” said David.

“She’s had a few trials and jumpouts so we’ve taken our time with her, and her owner has been very patient. We expected her to run well today, but she ended up further back than we would have liked. At the 600-metre mark I didn’t think she had any hope of running in the top three, but Ange showed why she won the premiership last year.

“She was as cool as a cucumber and waited for her chance before taking the shortest way home. The filly really extended in the straight and she put them to the sword in the end. Based on that, I think she’s got a bright future. She was very professional, we talk about black type which is easy to say but we have always thought she was capable of running to a high level.”

Many congratulations to her owner, Ben Lucas.
