BRAVE BON VADER BREAKS THROUGH

BON VADER broke a run of seconds with a first career win at Ipswich on Thursday.
Despite racing keenly in the mile Maiden, the son of Invader was still too strong for his main rival late in the piece as he justified odds-on favouritism with a one-length win.
BON VADER has been a source of frustration for much of his six-start career, but there is no denying the 3YO possesses plenty of talent and the $30,000 Magic Millions purchase has already more than paid his way for his connections.
Ryan Maloney faced a tough task to settle BON VADER for much of the contest, but the gelding moved through his gears impressively in the home straight to collect a cheque for $27,000 including some handy QTIS bonuses.
“The horse went out there today thinking he was going to lead again, so when he got taken on Ryan had a real job on his hands to try to restrain him,” said David.
“If you let him go you cost yourself any chance of winning, so Ryan did a great job and eventually the horse settled halfway through the race. Full marks to the horse for fighting on and winning the race, given how much energy he had expended at the start. There was a big margin to third, so it was a pretty good effort in the end.”
Many congratulations to his owner, Ben Lucas.
