BON VADER GOES BACK TO BACK

BON VADER enhanced his excellent race record with a second successive win at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday.
Having shed his maiden status over 1700m at Ipswich in mid-May, the 3YO dropped in trip to 1400m on his home track and made light of the rise in grade with another tough victory under a typically astute ride by Ryan Maloney.
The favourite had loomed large in the home straight, but BON VADER was not to be denied as he fended off the challenge to register victory by half-a-length.
The son of Invader is still a work in progress and will need to improve his raceday manners to realise his full potential, but the talent is undoubtedly there and he now boasts an impressive record of two wins and four placings from his seven career starts.
“It was a ten out of ten ride by Ryan,” said David.
“I thought we might be in a bit of trouble when he was throwing his head around, but Ryan managed to get control of him and let him flow into the race. I was a bit worried when the other horse came at him in the straight, but I was also pretty confident about him seeing out the race because he was coming back in trip from 1700 metres.
“This was a big step up in grade for him, the maiden win was in much lower grade so it was terrific to see him tough it out and go back to back. He’ll be a better horse next prep, but they’re only three once and it would be nice to keep chipping away at the QTIS money so we’ll see if we can find another race for him.”
The win took his earnings past $80,000, many congratulations to his owner Ben Lucas.
