BOHEMIAN LAD returned to the races with a very stylish performance in a slick time to bring up the stable’s fifth winner from our last seven starters.
The 3YO hadn’t been sighted at the races for almost nine months, but he made light of the lengthy absence with a comfortable win in the Benchmark 62 Handicap at the Sunshine Coast (1000m).
David had admitted to feeling some pre-race nerves, given his high opinion of the gelding and the fact that he had endured a long stint on the sidelines, but the win made for very comfortable viewing as jockey Ryan Maloney barely flinched in the saddle.
The two-length margin perhaps didn’t do justice to his dominance, and the winning time of 57.31 suggested BOHEMIAN LAD had lost none of his speed during his time off following tie-back surgery.
“The race worked out beautifully for him,” said David.
“He had a bunny to chase and when he got to the front, he pinned his ears back and did it very easy in the end. I must admit I’d been nervous all morning, but it was great to see him get out there and show us what he’s capable of.
“There’s the QTIS Jewel Prelude over 1100 metres which looks ideal for him, so I think we’ll target that race at Doomben on Saturday February 24th.”
The promising son of Better Than Ready now has two wins and a second from his three starts, many congratulations to Paul Joice of Sky Racing and his co-owners: Mr G I Turnbull, Mr C A Amerio, Mr W Ebert, Mr A Miethke, Mrs A Miethke, Mr M J Sly, Mr D R Ind, Mr M Fewkes, Mr C W Amerio, Mr J Amerio, Mr D M Kane and Mr S P Mayer.
