BOHEMIAN LAD CARRIES WEIGHT OF EXPECTATION

BOHEMIAN LAD defied an impost of 61kg, a potentially tricky draw and a betting drift to extend his impressive race record at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday.

The 4YO now has four wins, six minor placings and $190,000 in prizemoney and bonuses after his latest success in the Class 3 Plate (1400m).

Having run with credit in the lucrative Magic Millions QTIS Open (1300m) at the Gold Coast, Sunday’s contest represented a drop in grade but the son of Better Than Ready was slugged with a nine kilo rise up the weight scale.

BOHEMIAN LAD therefore showed great tenacity at his first start over 1400m to hold off his rivals under another masterful ride by Jimmy Orman.

The pair sat just off the speed and whilst the eventual runner-up laid down a significant challenge in the straight, BOHEMIAN LAD just clung on to make it three wins from his four starts on the turf track at the Sunny Coast.

“He’ll spend a few days at Pineview to recover from what was a super win,” said David.

“He’s got a few options coming up, including a Benchmark 78 over 1400 metres at Eagle Farm on Saturday week, which would see him drop two kilos in weight. We’d hopefully be able to book James Orman again, because although the horse won the race on Sunday with his determination, Jimmy played a big part with his ride.

“The other option is a Quality Handicap over 1400 metres on March 8th for QTIS horses only. If we did think that was the right way to go, we’d probably look to give him a trial on February 18th to keep his fitness levels up. But we’ll probably wait and assess him when he comes back into the stables before confirming the plans for him. Now that we know he runs out the 1400 metres, it gives us some more options with him moving forward.”
