BANANA SLIDE EATS UP THE MILE

BANANA SLIDE swept to her second successive win with a withering burst over the Doomben mile at the midweek metropolitan meeting.

The daughter of Sebring ended 2024 in style with a defeat of stablemate PEACEFUL PRINCE on her home track in late December, and she promptly picked up where she left off with a first city success in Wednesday’s Benchmark 70 Handicap (1600m).

Kyle Wilson-Taylor is starting to build a great affinity with BANANA SLIDE, having now piloted her to two wins and a minor placing from his three rides on the mare.

The pair looked to be in trouble after rounding the turn, with a wall of horses seemingly blocking their path, but once they found clear air BANANA SLIDE let down impressively to take her earnings to $68,200.

“I didn’t think she had any chance of winning before the turn,” said David.

“She looked too far back but Kyle rode a terrific race, and when they bullocked out she really pinned the ears back and wanted to win. They went a genuine tempo which set it up nicely for her, she just needed some luck in the straight and fortunately she got it.

“I was a bit worried stepping her up to the mile second up, but she was too good for them in the end. She’s had a few issues but it’s nice to see her showing her best now, and it’s always nice to train a winner in those colours.”

Many congratulations to Basil and all the Nolan family, who have been such great supporters of Queensland racing down the years.
