ANTONITO was back on his best behaviour at Ipswich as the 5YO went past $100,000 in career prizemoney earnings thanks to an all-the-way win.
Having pulled up with the thumps at his previous start, ANTONITO tackled Wednesday’s Class 3 Handicap (1200m) without any headgear and the move proved a masterstroke as he responded with a fourth career victory.
Ridden for the first time by apprentice jockey Emily Lang, the son of Sacred Falls charged into an early lead having pinged the leads.
After a controlled tempo Lang asked her mount to increase his effort in the home straight, and ANTONITO duly kicked clear in the closing stages to prevail by just over a length.
“He really enjoyed himself out there today,” said David.
“I put the blinkers on last time and I think it stressed him because he pulled up with the thumps. So we took them off and he was a much happier horse here today, because he paraded beautifully.
“We decided to chance our arm by going forward, especially as the previous leader won. It doesn’t always come off but luckily we got it right today.”
Many congratulations to all his owners: Mr J S Brown, Mr W G Johns, Mr R K Carbis, Mr B R Turville, Mr J P Munt, Pryde Racing, Mr A D Tonge and Mr R McNeill.
