ACAPULCO GIRL sealed a stable double at Ipswich on Friday when she extended her excellent fresh record.

The mare now has three wins and a minor placing from her four first-up starts after she overpowered her rivals in the Class 2 Handicap (1100m).

The heavily-backed favourite followed stablemate SLIPPIN’ JIMMY into the winner’s enclosure thanks to a textbook steer by Ben Thompson, who ended the day with two winners and three minor placings.

“It was a dominant win,” said David.

“I got a bit worried at the 400-metre mark when she came off the bit and I was concerned she wasn’t going to pick up. But when her motor kicked in she really put them to the sword.

“Ben made the comments that there was a big difference in her demeanour compared to the last prep. She was very relaxed in the yard and Ben even said she was half asleep in the barriers. So she’s in a good headspace and giving these mares time can really benefit them.”

Many congratulations to the team at On Track and all her owners: Mr I R Armstrong, Mr A J Halloran, Mr G M Oleksinski, Mr A G Cid, MGFS Racing, Mr G X Ryan, Mr A Grigg, Mr G F Townsend, Goldie Dreamers, Mr M A Walker, Mr M J Byrne, Mr G M Radburn, Mr C M Howitt, Senditt Racing, Mr D G Sheerin and Mr M J Swanson.
