Okeechobee returns from break a winner on the Sunny Coast.

A summer spell has agreed with 3yo filly Okeechobee who returned to racing with victory in a 1000m Class 1 Handicap at the Sunshine Coast, today.

Having had posted a win and a third placing (behind well-performed galloper The Odyssey) at her previous two starts last Spring, Okeechobee was sent out a warm favourite - and she didn't disappoint.

Ridden by Ryan Maloney, Okeechobee held her spot early with Maloney keen to keep her one off the fence, ensuring that from her gate (2), the daughter of Sebring would have clear running room as the field swung the home-turn.

Perfectly positioned with a little of 400m to run, travelling fourth and some four lengths from the leader, Maloney eased Okeechobee a little further out still.

Making light of the Heavy rated track conditions, Okeechobee quickly and easily surpassed the leading horses, hitting the front with a furlong to run.

From the point to the post, mindful that she was indeed first up on a heavy track, Maloney guided Okeechobee home to record a long neck win.

Today's effort forms the basis of what promises to be a competitive campaign for Okeechobee.
